Next Year
After finishing in the 34th percentile in Yahoo's "Tournament Pick 'em" contest this year, I've decided that next year all I'm going to do is watch college hoops and ESPN News. I may submarine my tenure chances, but I'll be sure to avoid being humiliated again come March. A man has to have priorities.
Congrats to Gators fans everywhere.

It is great to be a Florida Gator. But that is not why I comment.
I want to warn you of the false security of committing yourself to college basketball in an effort to craft a winning bracket...
For the 2004-2005 season, I made it my mission in life to live/eat/sleep/breath college basketball (this being the first year of my Ph.D., too--CRAZY I tell you). I watched every game that was televised (even of the small crappy schools I had never really heard of), I religiously tuned into ESPNNews and SportsCenter, and once time got close, I even regularly searched the net to see what the experts' picks were.
You know what happened? My bracket still sucked. I did impress a few men with my increased understanding of that year's tournament (and made them really envious of my husband in the process), but I still didn't win a thing.
The tournament is a crap shoot. Pure and simple.
But it sure is a fun fabulous crap shoot that makes March an exciting month!
Just my two cents for you!
Sorry for the delayed response here, ffbgirl.
Thanks for the advice. Of course, I'm only joking about totally shifting my priorities, but being at least a little informed might help (I was practically throwing darts this year.) Maybe I'll just hang out on ESPN.com when I would normally be on ComedyCentral.com catching up on "stories" I've missed that week. That'd be a sane trade, I think.
But you're right. It's still a crap shoot.
